Who are you — Talent or Promise? This is one of the first questions that you need to answer when starting to work on a UK Global Talent visa case.
The Global Talent Visa was created for talented individuals with exceptional skills and achievements in science, art or digital technology.
This is a person who is already a recognized leader and has made significant contributions to the field.
You already have a stellar resume, an excellent reputation, and are well known in your industry. You need to prove at least two of the following:
- you had a high position in which you participated in the implementation of innovative projects
- you have made a significant contribution to the development of your field
- you must have evidence of recognition outside of your work (supporting a charity, participating in a group project, speaking at a conference, public lectures, diplomas, certificates, etc.)
- you are involved in scientific research (publications in industrial media, dissertation, etc.)
This is an emerging professional who has the potential to become a recognized leader and make a tangible contribution to his field of activity.
You are a beginner: you should have no more than 5 years of professional experience. You must prove that you meet at least two of the following criteria:
- you have participated in at least one innovative project as a founder or employee
- you must have at least one piece of evidence of recognition outside of your work (supporting a charity, participating in a group project, speaking at a conference, public lectures, diplomas, certificates, etc.)
- at least one piece of evidence of your contribution to the development of your field (high appreciation of your work, gratitude from colleagues, a contract indicating your salary, and so on)
- you have participated in scientific research in your field at least once (publication in industrial media, dissertation, etc.)
An important nuance: the requirement of 'no more than 5 years of work in the industry' for the Promise category does not mean that the visa has any age restrictions. Before this, you could have worked as long as you wanted in another field.
Essentially, the main difference between the two categories is the length of your career and the amount of evidence required of your talents and skills. It is believed that Promise is easier to obtain, but each case is unique.
GTV Talent is issued for 3 years, and GTV Promise is issued for 5 years (to give you enough time to ‘realize your potential’).
Those who have received a Talent category visa can apply for permanent residence after 3 years, and Promise — after 5 years. You can apply for citizenship with a Talent visa after 5 years, with a Promise — after 6.
